| Planning Your Class Trip to St. Augustine Lesson 1: Remember Tour Companies are in business to make money! Useful creatures but you must be in the drivers seat. Know what you want to see and plan accordingly. Lesson 2: Most tour companies will have you running all over St. Augustine --- you'll see a lot of items fast but it won't be worth anything for your students (except they will pay alot). Lesson 3: From my experience there are really great teachers that prepare their students for the trip to St. Augustine with GREAT pre-trip lessons. There are other teachers that appear to be taking a vacation from the classroom. Please be among the great teachers. Lesson 4: Parents! This is not a time for them to socialize. During the various educational opportunities they need to KEEP QUIET. Turn off cell phones. It's really amazing how many parents can destroy an educational opportunity by their bad behavior (hmmmmm....) Lesson 5: Plan your trip with a logical sense of history - Don't bounce around to different sites if possible. Ever wonder why your kids think Henry Flagler is the founder of St. Augustine? They saw Flagler College first. Lesson 6: Your kids are going to learn a great deal about lots of things. Don't forget to plan some post lessons around their experience. |
