Loyalty Oath Unknown Montgomery County, Maryland October 11, 1864 Freedmen Bureau Records
Notes: Unfortunately this document is almost impossible to read. On October 11, 1864 in Montgomery County, Maryland someone took this oath. The document was not completely filled out with a physical description. This is NOT Abraham Lincoln's loyalty oath. Maryland had not gone with the Confederacy and the Emancipation Proclamation did not apply to this state. On November 1, 1864 the slaves would be liberated by the State of Maryland and the owners would be compensated. The document has wording that is the same as the Railroad Oath from 1862
