| Harry H. Flagler, Son of Florida's Developer, Dies Harry Harkness Flagler, 81, son of Henry M. Flagler, developer of Florida's east coast, died yesterday in his physician's office in New York City. Born into wealth, he showed little interest in finance but turned his attention to music. At one time he was president of the Symphony Society of New York and then of the Philharmonic-Symphony Society. He was a native of Cleveland, Ohio. His father, Henry M. Flagler, an associate of the elder John D. Rockefeller in the original incorporation of the Standard Oil Company, came to St. Augustine before the turn of the century to build the Florida East Coast Railway and a string of tourist hotels extending to Key West. Surviving are three daughters; Mrs. Melbert B. Cary, Jr., of New York, Mrs. Flagler Harris of Philadelphia, and Mrs. Flagler Matthews of Rye, N. Y. St Augustine Record July 1, 1952 |
