History
Flagler Sewer System
Flagler built twelve-inch sewer system for the hotels that simply drained into the Matanzas River.
People along the sewer line had the option of tapping into it. Sewer gas traveling back up the pipes
was a common problem, especially for the hotels in summer when water in the traps would dry out.
The solution to this problem was flushing out the sewer system with artesian well overflow. The city
finally made a sewer system by December 10, 1902.
