Amnesty Oath of David G. Raney Franklin County, State of Florida given 18th Day October, 1865 given to J. B
Norris Capt 25th USCI Provost Marshal.
Note: Note the reference to the Emancipation Proclamation. This oath was administered before the 13th
Amendment took place. The President's Amnesty Proclamation was Abraham Lincoln's which had been published on
December 8, 1863 along with the oath. Due to the uncertainty over the legal status of the Emancipation
Proclamation this part of the oath was another attempt to enforce the proclamation.
