1888 Bids for City
Jail

Bids for the erection of a city jail were opened, and were respectively as follows: M. T. Masters
$1,375; St. Augustine Improvement Company, $1,048; Ritchie Bros, $723.85; Woltz Bros, $1,222;
W. Markle $800; A. H. Cornish, $625. A committee was appointed to prepare a bond and have the
bondsmen for the lowest bidder sign same and immediately see that the work was begun and was
done properly. Bids for the building of a new city market, according to plans and specifications of the
Improvement Company were opened and were as follows: Mr. T. Masters $975; St. Augustine
Improvement Company, $942, A. H. Cornish, $800; W. H. Markle, $775. A committee was
appointed to prepare a bond.
